Dear guests you are warmly welcome to The Berrystay log cabin.
We hope you will have a great holiday in our berry themed cabin!


Location
Adress is Teerentie 6-8, Äkäslompolo, located in Kolari municipality and our semi detached cabin has number F17 located in the right corner of the yard with similar cabins around. Ylläs is the name of the fell, the destination (and area) and Äkäslompolo is the name of the north village. Ylläsjärvi is the name of the south village. The cabin is located in a part of Äkäslompolo called Kaulavaara, ca 500 m from the Ylläskaltio hotel (also called TUI Snow Princess).

Local area map
We have made our own Google Maps so you can see location of restaurants, activites and other things in the two villages Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi and the area around. Also some of our favorites places as open resting huts are marked out on this map.

Key to the cabin
There is a black keybox on the right side of the entrance door. Code to open the keybox will be sent to you in a separate message since we are changing the code after each guests. Then when you have enter with the keybox key, you can use the other key (decorated with red and blue “berries”) that are placed inside the cabin on the wall in the entrance. NOTE! Always let the key be left inside the keybox so you could not lock yourself out. Always set the code to 0000 on the keybox.

Transfer from airport
Nearest airport is Kittilä airport ca 55 km, 45 min. For more information about taxi and transfer service see: Travel to Ylläs

Hosting service & Cleaning
Bed linen/towels are not included in the rental fee, it will be 25 Euro per set. Beds are not ready since this is a self service cabin. We use a local hosting service company for cleaning and inspection of our cabin. If any extra help from our service host Tiina is needed during your stay in the cabin you will need to pay extra for her on-call service. Tiina Keisu, +358 40 839 8907.

What we expect from our guests
Read our housing rules that you agreed on when booking via AirBnB. So you know what's included or not in your stay and what final cleaning means. Final cleaning only incl surface cleaning and toilets/bathroom and do NOT include taking out trash/garbage, recycle packaging, doing the dishes and empty dishwasher, empty ashes from fire stove or putting back equipment or furniture in their right place. Check in and check out time
You will have access to the cabin from 4 pm on your arrival day and your check out time is 10 am on departure day. The cabin need to be controlled and final cleaned by our hosting company after each rental before next guests are arriving. Please respect these rules since we can have other guests arriving the same day. You can always ask if it's possible to check in earlier or check out later but we can't always accept this if we have other guests leaving/coming the same day. 

Parking and car heater
If you come with car there are two parking spaces no F17 on the yard, with heating points. You can start the heater from inside the cabin, directly to the right when enter the door, there is a white hatch on the wall, car heater switch are marked out.

Wifi and cable tv
Our network is called ‘Teerentie17’ with password: Teerentie2019. We have two TV both with Netflix. Please don’t change the channels or language.

Fire stove
There is free firewood in the small house in the middle of the yard that you can use. Don’t overheat the fire stove it will get very warm on the mezzanine. Remember to open the chimney damper before making a fire. And close it when fire is totally out. Santa Claus will not come and visit through the chimney he uses the door. Keep the shutters to the stove closed when a fire is on. If you use the fire stove you need to empty the ashes from it in the bin next to trash bins on the yard. 

Appliances and instructions
There are either QR-codes to video instructions or printed manuals on how to use the appliances in the cabin. There is underfloor heating in the ground floor, thermostats in the bedrooms and instructions on the wall in the entrance. There is also a small washing maschine and a drying cabinet.

Service in Äkaslompolo village
There is a big supermarket in Äkäslompolo village, Jounin Kauppa K-Market, usually it's open until 7 or 8 pm and you can also order online with delivery. Wine and spirits stronger than 5.5% you buy at Alko bottle shop in the same building as the supermarket. There is also a pharmacy in the same building but the opening hours are more limited. There are several restaurants and some cafés, the closest one is Restaurant Poro, ca 350 m which is quite nice. Our favorite restaurants in the village are: Restaurant Rouhe, Los Lompolos, Jänki grill food truck (not all seasons), Kitchen & Café Well, Velhonkota (in the woods) and Navetta Galleria. Day tours, activities and rentals
There are several activity companies in the village offering day tours as snow mobile tours, husky or reindeer safaris, northern light tours, guided snow shoe walks, fishing guides etc. Most kind of outdoor gear can be rented in the sport shops in the village. Snowshoes, downhill or cross country skis and e-fatbikes and even winter clothing and shoes, canoe, packraft, kayaks etc. Äkäslompolo Sport or by some of the activity companies as Lapland Safaris or Sisuoutdoor (our favorite shop for renting e-fatbikes). Downhill skis can be rented from the sport shops next to the lift station on each side of the fell.
Activities and rentals

Tourist information & National park
There is a tourist information and national park visitor center at Kellokas, ca 2.5 km up the road to the ski station. With a nice exhibition in the basement about local life in the area.
There are several entrances to the PallasYllästunturi nationalpark. Near Kesänkijärvi lake, near Kellokas info center or near Navetta galleria café. There is also a tourist info point at the supermarket. 

Kicksleds and plastic sleds
During winter season we have two kicksleds for guests to use. One blue and one red kicksled. NOTE! When you use the kicksleds to go to the village please lock them (key is on the cabin key) so they not will be stolen. Plastic sleds free to use, store them inside the cabin when you leave so they doesn’t disappear.

Ski resorts and cross country ski tracks
There are two ski stations for downhill skiing Ylläs ski Äkäslompolo (north) “Y1” and Ylläs Ski Ylläsjärvi, the gondola side (south) and the two systems of slopes and lifts are connected to each other during high season and use the same ski pass. There are about 330 km of cross country tracks around Ylläs area for cross country skiing. Note! Do not walk or snowshoe on the cross country ski tracks, not even in the flat part in the middle, this is dangerous and people will be upset if you do. Buy a map of the track system in the supermarket or any of the sport shops or at the supermarket. Downhill ski map is free when you buy ski pass. There is also a digital map of all the tracks.

During ski season there is a ski bus service that will take you around the two villages. Nearest bus stop is Ylläskaltio hotel. See timetable on Ylläs web site.
